Get Home Safe
I collaborated with the UK-based, multimedia artist Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley to realize her installation GET HOME SAFE in the SCAD Museum of Art.
GET HOME SAFE by Danielle Brathwaite Shirley combines video art, digital prints, and a video game to invite viewers into the lived experiences of Black trans people.
I liaised between Richmond and the SCAD MOA to schedule meetings, place artworks with intention, and ensure that technical needs were met for each piece. Since the exhibit’s main work (the video game) asks viewers to make choices for the Black trans protagonist, Shirley and I designed the layout and signage to interrogate viewers’ relationships to those identities.
Finally, I coordinated a discussion between Shirley and several trans, BIPOC Savannah residents which informed the creation of another piece intended to ground the exhibit in its local context.
